how do we convert mp4 files to mp3 files

the "create mp3 version" option under File-> create new version is greyed out

under itunes for mac discusssion they are suggesting holding down the options key on the mac keyboard but no such key exists on PC and when you use the ALT key on the PC the menu disappears.
